I’m so here for this idea! Year round school should be the norm. Also async school too! (My niece was given such a hard time for going on vacation for a week. How hard can it be for a third grader to catch up? Just give her some work she can do while she is away!)

Async school? I like that idea! Let me make a note of that. I was chatting with a parent on Monday about your Substack and I asked him what his ideal school would be for his daughter. Interestingly, he put forth something that resembled "async school," emphasizing individualized-learning. Not self-directed learning, nor direct instruction, but individualized to his daughter's character, weakness, strengths, etc. I'll have to write his idea up as a post. Thanks for your comment.

I love that idea!!! Interestingly it exists for special needs students. They get an IEP (individualized education plan). All students should get one!

If you need an IEP (severe needs) you often Qualify for ESY (extended school year)

Join your local sped parents Facebook book to get a realistic picture of IEPs.

No severe needs here, but good to know for everyone else. Is extended school year a good deal? What’s the upside?

Are you unfamiliar with IEP / ESY? You might want to research that
