"My problem is that they are factually mistaken. They hold beliefs that objectively conflict with the way the world is in many respects; they misunderstand the current state of society, the causes of social problems, and the effects of social policies. This leads them to advocate policies and behaviors that worsen society and even undermine their own values."

The Blue team looks at the world the way they want it to be (including human nature), the Red team looks at the world the way that it is. Thomas Sowell called it the Conflict of Visions.

It's not all bleak for the Blue Team. During periods when they were tethered to conservative pragmatism, they managed to create some amazing creative technologies and industries. During these better periods they were able to generate more wealth for their parts of the country. But small errors accumulated into all-consuming ideologies or grand narratives are incredibly harmful in the long-run.
