Humans evolved from animals that wore no shoes. Almost as certain, homo sapiens has run shoeless most of the time. Doing so may not be for everyone but it is not extreme. Maybe runners can even run faster or have fewer injuries with shoes but faster isn't always the goal and maybe the injuries are less likely to permanently end running. Tradeoffs.
