Yesterday Rob Henderson wrote, “Despite recent experiences, I still love bookstores in general, visit them frequently, and consider them to be special places.” Shortly after reading those words I happened to be walking past a bookstore—The Barn Owl: Books and Gifts—and felt like peeking inside. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this bookstore was in terms of their displays and offerings, especially their Classics, History, Westerns and Children’s sections.
I’ve grown accustomed to a progressive viewpoint bias among most teachers, librarians, bookstores, colleges and publishers. The bookstore bias has probably slowed my frequenting of bookstores in general, but this particular bookstore served me well; I bought 10 books for my kids.
After spending a good deal of time and money here we walked outside to find an entertaining event that the bookstore had helped sponsor—the Monster Dog Pull. Here are some highlights of that event. Enjoy.
